When does GTA 6 preload start?
Several outlets report that digital preloading starts on 12 November 2026 for eligible pre-orders, and that physical copies also ship from that date. Rockstar has not published a preload schedule that we could check, so confirm in your console's library.
How does preloading work?
- You pre-order digitally, or redeem a physical code when it ships.
- The game appears in your library with a pre-load option.
- You download the files in advance.
- At the unlock time the game opens. Reports point to 00:00 GMT in the UK. See UK release time.
Can you play GTA 6 early?
No. Preloaded files sit locked until the official unlock. Offers of early access are scams. See the scam warning.
Preload checklist
| Step | Why |
|---|---|
| Free up space | The size is unannounced and expected to be large. See file size |
| Update your console | Avoid system updates on launch night |
| Use a wired connection | Faster and more stable |
| Check your pre-order | Confirm the game and bonus show in your library |
| Plan for a day-one patch | Size and timing unknown |
What about physical copies?
Reports say the box holds a download code, not a disc, so you redeem it to preload. See digital vs physical.
